Kanazawa and a Potential Absence

Hello, loyal readers who are undoubtedly my friends and family as nobody else cares about my exploits! How are you all?

The past week has pretty much been the same old same old. Went to Akiba again (got that webcam this time, so now I can video chat!), shopping in Shibuya with a woman from the embassy (who reminded me of my aunt Janet [which is a good thing, in case anybody was trying to read too deeply into that]), shopped around Ikebukuro on a whim (so many more girls than there are in Akihabara @_@), and basically had a grand old time! I’ve met up with two people so far for language exchanges and had a lot of fun with both of them. Even though I had been a little concerned that they were both men, they were really nice guys and I had a great time on both outings. And no, they weren’t dates, I paid for myself and one of them even has a fiancée XD

But I am really excited for this weekend!

Tomorrow night (that’s Friday, darlings) I’m taking a 7-8 hour bus ride to the city of Kanazawa to see my friend Allie! Am I excited about the bus? No. However it seems like it will be totally worth it. I have a long weekend since Labour Day is an embassy holiday and I plan on spending it with a friendly face. Kanazawa is also supposed to be an absolutely beautiful city, one of the only ones that was never firebombed in WWII, so I’m pumped to see the old streets and castles. Allie is here on her second year with JET and is nice enough to let me stay with her. Of course, she’s extended the same offer should she ever visit Tokyo (with my hosts’ approval, of course).

I’ll probably have to report on the trip on Monday night, though, because I’m afraid I have some bad news.

As some of you may know, construction needs to be done on my Tokyo home. The hot water pipe in the basement seems to have been leaking for months, filling the entire crawl space with water. The result has been damaged wood and mould growing throughout the basement walls, ceiling, and floor. So, as the home is owned by the embassy, the embassy is sending workers in to tear apart the entire basement and living room floor. Because we can’t live in the house while they’re doing all this, they’re moving us to an apartment on the embassy compound until they finish the work on the house. Normally, this would be fine; embassy’s got a play ground for the kids, parents are closer to work, I get to sleep in a queen sized bed, however… there’s a very good chance I won’t have internet. Which totally sucks =___= No internet means no blog, no talking to family and friends, no email… For up to a month! DX

So this is a warning… If I disappear throughout September, no horrible fate has befallen me… I’m just living on Canada Court. TT^TT

I chuckled heartily at “more girls here than Akihabara” XD. Glad to read another of your nice blog entries ^^. I hope you take a lot of pictures of the traditional neighborhoods, I do want to see those. I really hope you get some internet at the embassy and if not, I suggest you find a wifi hotspot to blog and send emails and stuff, I’m gonna miss you something awful if we can’t even chat once in a while ><

Here's to hoping there's internet here and there!
